REPAIR FAQs
What types of instrument repairs do you do?
Eastside Music is primarily a band instrument repair shop. Our focus is woodwind instruments and brass instruments. Additionally, we can restring orchestra or fretted instruments and do limited set-up work. We do not do any type of electronics repair. We do not do luthier level structural repair of wood instruments.
How much will it cost to repair my instrument?
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to give an accurate price estimate without seeing the instrument in person. There are often small details that can change the depth of repair needed and those must be examined first-hand by the technician. We may be able to give a “ballpark” range over the phone if we are provided the appropriate information.
I found an instrument online. Can you guys fix it for me?
Usually the answer is yes. Be mindful that there are certain instances where the value of an instrument may not warrant the cost of repair. Very cheaply made instruments do not hold their playing condition for long and can be a costly burden to the owner. They may also need parts that there are no replacements for. Higher quality, name-brand instruments cost more up front but will be a better value and experience for the owner if they can swing that cost.
Why are instruments so cheap online vs. in store?
Many instruments sold online need repair to some degree or another. While most sellers claim their instrument is ready to play, it takes a skilled technician to evaluate the tolerances and check for proper function. Much of the value of a woodwind or brass instrument is in its condition. The good news is that a well-made, properly maintained instrument can last decades.
How long will it take to complete my repair?
Most repairs can be completed within 1 week. Larger repairs and overhauls/rebuilds may take 2 or 3 weeks. Please be aware that the months of June - September are our busiest repair months and turnaround times will likely be longer. Please call our technician to get an estimate of time in shop.
